Thomas C. Michaud

Thomas Michaud, as a partner with the law firm of VanOverbeke, Michaud & Timmony, P.C., specializes in public employee benefits law. As legal counsel to numerous public employee retirement systems and retiree health care plans, Tom provides legal representation in areas of public pension, health care, domestic relations, trust and tax law. Tom also represents the Michigan Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems (MAPERS).

Tom and his firm have been instrumental in the legislative amendments and enactment of numerous state laws impacting retirement and retiree health care benefits, including the Public Employee Retirement System Investment Act and the Public Employee Retirement Benefit Protection Act.

Tom, a frequent speaker in the area of public pension law, is an active member of such organizations as the Michigan Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems, the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems, International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, and the National Association of Public Pension Attorneys.

Tom received his Bachelor of Science degree in labor relations from Cornell University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit.
